SUVs, along with electric vehicles, have become the next big thing in the automotive industry. However, there are some automakers that are dominating the market in this category. That doesn’t mean that others shouldn’t give it a try as well. Suzuki has been trying to get to the top regarding SUVs. One of their most popular models is the Suzuki Jimny. This is a car that has grown to be loved. After all, it is very practical. However, for 2023, Suzuki is surprising us with an all-new version of the Jimny. For the longest time, people have been waiting for the 4-door version of the Suzuki Jimny. Not so long ago, some spy photos were released from India, proving that Suzuki is finally ready to release this version on the roads. A longer Jimny was spotted free of any camouflage for the first time. This was even before its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in January.
The SUV was captured near the city of Leh, the joint capital of the Ladakh region in India. And unlike any other sightings of camouflaged prototypes captured in Europe, this car was fully exposed. This was mainly because there was an ongoing photo and video shoot for promotional purposes. Otherwise, I don’t think we would have seen it if it wasn’t for that.
As previously predicted, the design of the four-door Jimny, or 5-door if you count the tailgate, looks just like its three-door counterpart. They all look familiar up to the B-pillar. Most of the time, when an automaker releases the 4-door version of a car, they opt to give it smaller front doors when compared to their 3-door counterparts. However, for the Jimny, this is not the case. Instead, Suzuki has given the 4-door version of the Jimny shorter rear doors, even though it now comes with a significantly longer wheelbase.
According to some reports from Rushlane, the longer Maruti Suzuki Jimny could potentially offer a three-row configuration. However, if this were to be accurate, the space for the passengers might become quite limited in a possible seven-seater variant. But even with that aside, the longer Jimny is expected to offer a decent amount of legroom for the rear passengers and a proper boot. This is compared to the three-door version of the Jimny.
If Suzuki were to go ahead with the seven-seat variant, they would make it a practical ladder-frame SUV that would be very suitable for families. This would be completely different from the current Jimny, which is available mainly as a two-seater LCV in the European markets. But apart from that, the dashboard would most likely be carried over from the current model with minimal changes. This means they would come with a fresh 9-inch infotainment screen sourced from other Suzuki models.
So far, with the little that we know, the five-door 2023 Suzuki Jimny is expected to be launched in the Indian market sometime in mid-2023. As for the other markets, this is bound to happen shortly after it launched in India. The rival models in India will include the upcoming five-door variants of the similarly styled New Force Gurkha, along with the Wrangler-style Mahindra Thar.
The 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny, which we have already established will be available in India, will come in seven different color options. This includes five monotone shades as well as two dual-tone options. The off-roader will also get a Kinetic Yellow paint job to help it stand out in bad weather.
One of the best things that Suzuki has done with the 2023 Suzuki Jimny is that they have increased the space. Anyone who has owned or even driven a 3-door version of the Jimny can tell you that it has next to no space. The introduction of the 5-door has been clever, and it makes total sense.
So, is the five-door version worth it? Well, it’s too soon to tell. With the recent unveiling, we can tell that it is a very decent car. It is also an upgrade from its predecessor, which will remain on the market. The five-door version will be sold alongside the three-door version in India. However, other markets will receive the five-door version later.
