Suzuki Jimny JB74 ROOF RACK INSTALL | FULL DIY TUTORIAL | How To Fit Roof Racks | Rhino Rack Vortex

Hi Guys and Gals!

In this video I show you all of the steps necessary to install roof racks to your Suzuki Jimny Jb74. This guide can be used for any vehicle as the steps are very similar for all vehicles.

The roof racks that I fitted to my Suzuki Jimny JB74 are the Rhino Rack Vortex bars. This is a 2 bar roof rack system that weighs in at 7kg. Rhino Rack do make a platform system for the Suzuki Jimny but the Roof racks can actually hold more weight ON and OFFROAD.

The Roof load rating for the Suzuki Jimny is 30KG. That means that any roof rack or platform system and the items you are wanting to carry on the roof need to weigh in at under 30KG. With the weight of the cross bar roof racks coming in at 7kg, this gives us 23KG on road and 15KG off-road rating for gear and accessories that we can have on the Rhino Rack Vortex Bars. The Platform system weighs in at 20KG which eats into the roof load rating a fair bit. This only gives us 10KG of weight for accessories and storage, this can easily be used up with just an awning. So the Roof racks are the best option to keep the roof load light weight and still give us maximum allowance for accessories and gear.

There are a lot of different roof racks or load bars available for the Suzuki Jimny and they all mount in a very similar way. This is due to the vehicles roof gutter system which allows easy fitment of roof racks.

The Rhino Rack Vortex bar kit comes with all of the parts necessary to install the roof racks to the roof. You will require some basic tools like scissors and a 10mm spanner or ratchet. Having some microfibre towels handy is also a good idea for protecting and cleaning the roof. When I installed my Rhino rack vortex bars to the Suzuki Jimny JB74 I also used a large towel to protect the roof while carrying out the install.

In this video I give you a full step by step guide on how to assemble and fit the roof racks to the vehicle. It is an easy process to install the roof racks but it just requires some time and patience to get it all aligned properly. It is important to spend the extra time to get the cross bar roof racks sitting evenly and parallel across the roof. The Rhino rack vortex bars also come with all of the rubber inserts for the roof racks to prevent any wind noise. The Keys for the end caps and the rubber inserts are stored inside the roof racks when they are delivered. So make sure you take off the end caps and shake out the parts before fitting them to the roof.

The Suzuki Jimny can use all of the storage space it can get and fitting a set of roof racks or platform is a very popular choice. I decided on the Rhino Rack Vortex bars due to them having a great sale on at the time. They are also a very high quality roof rack with great warranty. The Roof racks kits are very easy to assemble and you can tell that the company has really thought about their Roof rack kits and instructions.

Now my Suzuki Jimny JB74 has the roof racks fitted its going to give me that extra storage space that it really needs. Its also going to be a great spot to mount an awning and some other light accessories. The heavy duty roof racks are going to be perfect for storing my MAXTRAX and other bulky but light items.

After driving with the Rhino Rack Vortex Bars fitted I haven’t noticed any wind noise or loss of fuel consumption. This is also another great reason to choose the roof racks over a platform system. The Roof racks offer a lot less wind resistance then a platform system. This means that the fuel consumption wont go up like you would notice with a platform system on the roof.

The Suzuki Jimny JB74 is ready for its next adventure now with its latest accessory 🙂
