Price: Maruti will likely price it from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Variants: The Jimny can be booked in two trims: Zeta and Alpha.

Colours: Maruti offers the Jimny in two dual-tone options and five monotone shades: Kinetic Yellow with Bluish Black roof, Sizzling Red with Bluish Black roof, Sizzling Red, Granite Gray, Nexa Blue, Bluish Black and Pearl Arctic White.

Seating Capacity: The Jimny has the capacity to seat up to four people.

Ground Clearance: It comes with a ground clearance of 210mm.

Boot Space: The India-spec Jimny has a boot loading capacity of 208 litres, which can be increased to 332 litres by tumbling down the rear seats.

Engine and Transmission: Propulsion duty is carried out by a 1.5-litre petrol engine (105PS/134Nm) with idle-engine start/stop. Transmission options include a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic. It comes with a 4WD drivetrain.

Features: Features on board the Jimny include a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system (from the new Baleno and Brezza) with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, and automatic climate control.

Safety: On the safety front, the Jimny gets six airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors.

Rivals: The Maruti Jimny will be a direct competitor to the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny EV: The Jimny EV is in the works and will be part of Suzuki’s EV lineup in Europe.

The Mahindra Thar now starts from Rs 9.99 lakh and tops at Rs 16.29 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).

Variants: It is offered in two broad trims: AX(O) and LX.

Colours: The Thar can now be had in six colour options: Everest White (New), Blazing Bronze (New), Aquamarine, Red Rage, Napoli Black and Galaxy Grey.

Engine and Transmission: The 4WD variants of the Mahindra Thar get a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine (150PS/320Nm) and a 2.2-litre diesel engine (130PS/300Nm), both paired with a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission. The RWD variants get a smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine (118PS/300Nm) instead of the bigger one which only comes with a six-speed manual transmission.

Features: Features on board the Thar include a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, halogen headlights with LED DRLs, electrically controlled AC, and steering-mounted controls. Mahindra has also included a washable interior floor as well as detachable roof panels.

Safety: On the safety front, it gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill descent control, traction control, rear parking sensors and a front seat belt reminder.

Rivals: The Mahindra Thar is a rival to the Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. It also rivals similarly priced compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
